What a glorious day of summer weather we're having. I'm chomping at the bit to get outside and paint. Much of what I have been painting has been ... practising. Yes, I admit it. There are almost countless paintings in my studio that will never see the light of day but they are priceless. Priceless because of what I'd learn with each one. I am amazed looking at some paintings from 2014 and those I do now and see so much I would change or not do or - wipe clean! I so appreciate the instructors I have had over the past three years. I am in awe of how much I get out of their knowledge and sharing.
When new artists ask me for tips my quickest response is "Take workshops! Find artists whose work you respect and learn from them. Watch videos and tutorials online. Get involved with actual instruction from a qualified instructor over a day or longer, and do it often. Soak up the artistic world and learn learn learn!" I have so much respect for those artists I so admire who are at the pinnacle of their painting career, yet they remain open and free to admit they are still learning. Thank you for reminding us that such is life and art and so much more.
